Being Church in Strange Times - 9

Wednesday 8 April 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

It is a very sad thing that we cannot meet together this Holy Week to remember Jesus' death and celebrate his resurrection. Neverthless, I do pray that you will find time this week to reflect on Jesus' suffering and death and that you will know the joy of the Risen Lord.

During this week, as we ponder the love of Jesus, you might enjoy this video version of the hymn O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus.

Tomorrow is Maundy Thursday and there will be material for the service on the website. This will include texts and audio recordings and YouTube versions of hymns as usual. I also suggest that you have a bowl of water and a towel in front of you as you follow the service which recalls Jesus washing his disciples' feet.

In addition you might want to consider having an Agape Meal, which is not a Eucharist but a way of sharing a meal and some prayers together. Bishop Robert says this:' Quite apart from the sacrament of Holy Communion, this is an ideal time to encourage families and households to observe an agape meal on Maundy Thursday'. There is a simple order of service (sent from the Diocese) for this here.

For Good Friday, I suggest a couple of options. You might want to follow the Stations of the Cross through Malcolm Guite's poems and accompanying art work. The link is here.

The service material for our usual Good Friday Liturgy (again with written text, hymns and recordings) is here.

I will send out an email on Saturday with links for the Easter Day service.

With my love in Christ,
Helen
