Being Church in Strange Times - 11

Wednesday 15 April 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Alleluia. Christ is Risen. He is Risen indeed. Alleluia! I hope you have all been able to celebrate the joy of Easter despite the difficult circumstances we all face. Thank you for all your kind Easter greetings.

I hope that those of you who are working at the moment have been able to enjoy a rest over the weekend and those who are living alone have been able to be in contact with friends and family online or by phone. Let us continue to remember one another and pray for one another and hope that we will be able to worship together before too long.

I remind you that we have our 'coffee meeting' every Wednesday at 10am and Sunday at 11.30am. Everyone is welcome to join in via zoom. Please email me if you would like to know more. The Men's Bible study group also meets every Sunday at 10.45am.

Looking further ahead, Dr Clare Amos is running a Bible study, via zoom, on The Bible and Creation, on Saturday 25th April, 10am - 11am, and 11.30am - 12.30pm. This will be run by Holy Trinity Geneva. If you would like to join in, please send an email to admin@holytrinitygeneva.org before Friday 24th April.

There are many resources on our St Ursula's website: some are serious and some are more light hearted! Below are a couple more poems and prayers.

Poem: Easter Dawn
He blesses every love that weeps and grieves
and now he blesses hers who stood and wept
and would not be consoled, or leave her love's
last touching place, but watched as low light crept
up from the east. A sound behind her stirs
a scatter of bright birdsong through the air.
She turns, but cannot focus through her tears,
or recognise the Gardener standing there.
She hardly hears his gently question, 'Why,
why are you weeping?', or sees the play of light
that brightens as she chokes out her reply,
'They took my love away, my day is night.'
And then she hears her name, she hears Love say
The Word that turns her night, and ours, to Day.
(Malcolm Guite)

A Locked Church
Ah my dear Lord, the church is locked
but let my heart be open to your presence;
there let us make, you and I,
your Easter garden:
plant it with flowers,
and let the heavy stone be rolled away.
(Alan Amos)

Prayer
Christ yesterday and today,
the beginning and the end,
Alpha and Omega.
all time belongs to you,
and all ages;
to you be the glory and power,
through every age and forever.
Amen

With love in Christ,
Helen
