Being Church in Strange Times - 28

Saturday 13 June 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Tomorrow we will have a 'test' service in church with members of the council, and those with other particular roles to check that all our new systems work. Thank you for all those who have worked hard to re-open the church. Please pray for all those involved in the service tomorrow.

Just to be clear - and to avoid confusion and disappointment - please do not come to church tomorrow unless you have been invited and have booked a seat.

For those who are coming to this 'test' service, please do remember your seat number and whether you are in the church or the hall and use the appropriate entrance. Do bring a coat or jacket in case you get cold as we will have the windows and doors open to allow for air to circulate.

The service will also be online here. A big thank you to Hector for putting this together as always and all those who have contributed to the service in different ways.

The Men's Bible Study Group will take place tomorrow at 10.45am. Dominic will lead this as David and James will be taking part in the service in church. The Coffee Discussion Group will take place at 11.30am. If you would like the zoom links to either of these meetings, please let me know.

From next Sunday, 21st June, the church will be open for everyone, but you will need to book a seat as the numbers will be limited. You can book through this link OR by ringing the office. (The office is open Monday 8am - 1pm, Wednesday 8am - 1pm, Thursday 8am - 1pm). Bookings will open on Monday 16th June at 10.30 am. We request that all bookings are made before midnight on the Wednesday before the following Sunday, so there is then time to arrange the seating plan and chairs. Unfortunately, we cannot receive bookings after midnight on Wednesday.

Each Sunday there will be a service in both the church and the hall. This Sunday and next Sunday, I will lead the service and preach in the church and David will lead the service and read my sermon in the hall, but some Sundays it will be the other way round. You can book your seat in either the church or the hall. If you are coming on your own please book a single seat and if you are coming as a couple please book 2 seats together. If you are 3 or more, please ring the office to book the seats. Thanks for your co-operation!

Many of you will have been praying for the justice concerns and tensions following George Floyd's brutal death. If you are interested, here is a link to a powerful reflection on these issues by Rowan Williams.

Almighty God,
you have created the heavens and the earth
and made us in your own image:
teach us to discern your hand in all your works
and your likeness in all your children;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
whoe with you and the Holy Spirit reigns supreme over all things,
now and for ever.
Amen

With love in Christ,
Helen
