Being Church in Strange Times - 30

Saturday 20 June 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Tomorrow, 21st June, we have our first service in church for everyone. It will be such a joy to see you there and to be able to worship together. We will also, of course, remember those of you who cannot physically be present with us.

If you are coming to church tomorrow, please remember your seat number and whether you are in the church or the hall. If you are seated in the church, please use the church entrance, and if you are seated in the hall, please use the hall entrance. Unless you have a particular role in church, I kindly ask that you don't arrive at church before 9.45am and that you then go straight to your seat to avoid too many people walking around. Thank you.

Tomorrow's service will also be online. As always, I am very grateful to all those who have contributed to the service and to Hector for putting the material online.

For Sunday 28th June, the booking will open on Monday 22nd at 10.30am. You can book online OR you can ring the office on 031 352 85 67. Please book a single seat if you are coming alone and two seats together if you are coming as a couple from the same household. If there are three or more of you please ring the office to book your seats. On 28th June, David will be leading the service and preaching in church and I will be leading the service and reading his sermon in the hall. Booking will close at midnight on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, The Men's Bible Study Group will meet, via zoom, at 10.45am for those who are not attending church and it will be led by Dominic Roser. Thank you to Dominic. The Coffee Discussion Group will be at 11.30am, via Zoom. I apologise that I will not be able to attend tomorrow as I am involved with the confirmation group which is meeting at the same time.

Please continue to pray for Kathy Hoag's family, that God will comfort them in their loss. I will let you know more details about the funeral as soon as possible.

At our lectio divina meeting on Wednesday we reflected on the following verses from Psalm 36. I hope they will be an encouragement to you too.

'Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your judgements are like the great deep;
you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.'
(Psalm 36: 5-9)

A Prayer
God of our pilgrimage,
source of all light and life:
refresh and sustain us
as we go forward on our journey,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

With love in Christ,
Helen
