Being Church in Strange Times - 50

Thursday 22 October 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I look forward to being with you again on Sunday after a very pleasant few days in Adelboden. Can I remind you that if you are coming to church on Sunday please to wrap up warm. If you have booked a seat and can no longer come along please do text either 077 495 7419 or 076 690 50 88.The service will also be online and also repeated on Wednesday 28th at 10.30am. There is no need to book for this service.

As you will be aware the cases of Covid 19 are now shooting up across Switzerland, including in the Bern area. If you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive, the best advice is to isolate for 14 days (even if you test negative). This short article clarifies how important this is: The one thing that could ‘change the game’ for tackling COVID in Europe, according to WHO.

If you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for the virus, please would you not come to church for 2 weeks. If we all follow this guidance we will be protecting one another. I realise that these next few weeks or months are likely to be difficult and we will all need to be patient. Let us also keep praying for those across the world who are most affected by the virus both in terms of health and loss of livelihood.

Next Sunday, 1st November, is All Saints Day when we remember the saints of the church and also our own loved ones who have died. The booking link can be accessed from Tuesday morning. Or you can ring the office.

On a lighter note, we are having another online quiz, 7pm, Friday 30th October. If you would like to register a team you can do so here or you can contact Sue Higson. Our last online quiz was great fun and we also raised some money for church funds. Please do join us for a memorable evening.

This morning at our lectio divina meeting we read some verses from the first chapter of Philippians. Perhaps we could all use these words to pray for ourselves and for one another:

'And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight, to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.'

With my love in Christ,
Helen
