Being Church in Strange Times - 52

Thursday 5 November 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I hope that you are keeping safe and well and keeping up your spirits in these challenging times. Please do contact me by email or phone if I can be of any support.

This Sunday is Remembrance Sunday. We will be remembering those who died in conflicts in the past and those who are affected by war across our world today. You will be able to follow the service online. The service will be ready by Saturday evening. We will be joined by people from the British Embassy and elsewhere. If you know of people beyond our regular congregation who might appreciate knowing about this service, please send them the information.

Other Online Activities:

Our next Bible Study will be on Tuesday 10th November, 7-8.15pm. This will involve some input and then discussing together in breakout rooms. If you would like to join us please let me know.

The lectio divina group continues to meet every Thursday, 10.30-11.15am to reflect on a Scripture passage and then share our thoughts together. Again, if you would like to join us, please let me know and I will send you the link.

The Christmas Bazaar will not be taking place but we will be taking orders for items from the British Food store, for decorations and Christmas cards. The order forms will be available soon.

Jean Charlton-White's Pictures
Jean died earlier this year and many of you will remember her fondly. She was a very accomplished artist and her family have informed us that there will be opportunity to see some of her pictures at her home at Selibuhlweg 1, 3076 Worb.. There will be different viewing times available from Thursday 19th – Sunday 22nd November, Anyone wanting to do this needs to book here.
The family emphasise this is not an exhibition and anyone attending needs to 'expect to go through racks and folders and turn pages' in order to see the pictures.

Information from the British Embassy
If any British citizens among you have any questions about Covid 19, or about living here after the transition period, the Embassy would like to hear from you as they are preparing a question and answer session. Please send me any questions and I can forward them on to the co-ordinator of this project.

Prayer for the United States
In the aftermath of the elections and the ongoing uncertainty and deep divisions within the country, let us pray for the government and people of the United States.

Holy God of grace and justice,
we pray for the people of the United States
at this time of uncertainty and division:
Guide this nation in the ways of justice, wisdom and peace,
break down barriers of anger, suspicion and fear,
and build up all that makes for the health, hope and flourishing of all.
We ask this prayer trusting in your goodness and love,
and in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Other Prayers

Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn
but the sword of righteousness,
no strength known but the strength of love:
so mightily spread abroad your Spirit,
that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace,
as children of one Father;
to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever.
Amen.

God of peace,
whose Son Jesus Christ proclaimed the kingdom
and restored the broken to wholeness of life:
look with compassion on the anguish of the world
and by your healing power
make whole both people and nations;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

With love in Christ,
Helen
