Being Church in Strange Times - 53

Thursday 12 November 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As you had a long message from me yesterday, I will keep this one fairly brief.

Our service on Sunday will focus on our use of time, something which is perhaps a challenge to us all, especially in these difficult Covid times. Sadly we are still not meeting in church but you can follow the service online as usual here. I am very thankful to Hector, Martin and Art for all their hard work in putting the service together. The service will be on the website by Saturday evening.

The Online Bible study groupi was well attended last Tuesday evening. If you are interested in coming to the next one, it will be on Tuesday 24th November, 7-8.15pm.

The lectio divina group meets every Thursday, 10.30-11.15am to reflect on a Scripture passage and then share our thoughts together. If you would like to join us, please let me know and I will send you the link.

The Christmas Bazaar, as you know, will not be taking place but we will be taking orders for items from the British Food store, for Christmas dinners, and for decorations and Christmas cards. The order forms will be available soon. They are very professionally produced and there are plenty of wonderful goodies to buy. A big thank you to all those who are organising this.

Intercessions during these Covid times
The Diocese have produced a sheet of intercessions for each day of the week, praying for different people and situations in relation to the pandemic. Sometimes we may feel at a loss how to pray and these prayers are very helpful, so I do commend them to you. The document is attached.

A prayer for ourselves
Grant us grace, O Father, not to pass by suffering or joy without eyes to see.
Give us understanding and sympathy, and guard us from selfishness,
that we may enter into the joys and sufferings of others.
Use us to gladden and strengthen those who are weak and suffering
that by our lives we may help others to believe and serve thee,
and shed forth thy light which is the light of life.
Amen.
