Being Church in Strange Times - 81

Wednesday 26 May 2021

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

This coming Sunday, is Trinity Sunday. David will be preaching and he will be looking at the words of the Creed to help us to think about our faith in the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There are still a few seats available. If you would like to come, please contact the office by 11am tomorrow morning. As usual, you can also follow the service online. We are all very thankful to Hector, Martin and Art for making this possible

Men's Group
The group will be meeting on Sunday at 11.30am, via Zoom. If you are not on the mailing list for the Zoom link, and would like to be, please let me know.

Sunday Coffee Time
Every Sunday at 11.30am. We meet together, via Zoom, to share reflections on the readings and sermon. Ask Helen for the Zoom link.

Margaret Ita
Margaret died recently and her funeral is tomorrow, Thursday 27th May. She was involved at St Ursula's for many years, organising the Sunday School, and a keen member of the Patchwork Group. Please do keep her family in your prayers.

Everyday Faith
It is good for us to reflect on how our faith affects our lives and to learn from others. Over the last few weeks, there has been a short slot in the service when a member of the congregation has spoken about their faith and daily life. Recently, we have heard from Sue Higson, Michael Agoba and Caroline Montgomery. Let me know if you would like to do this. We are also encouraging members of the congregation to make a short video in which they talk about their faith, life and work. Art Funkhouser and Jorum Kirundi have made videos which you can see here.
If you would like to make a video yourself, please let me know.

Thank you to all those who came to the online reading of Mark's gospel, chapters 1-8, on Tuesday. Thank you especially to our four readers. It was a very powerful experience listening to the gospel being read aloud. We will continue with reading and reflecting on the rest of the gospel on Tuesday 8th June.

Online Summer Fête
The online summer fête is open for orders.
If you have any problems placing an order or need to change an item after sending the order, please contact the events team on Event@stursula.ch

Book Stall
As part of the summer fête, do come along to look at our books. (Numbers are restricted to 5 people at any one time). The book stall will be open:

  • Friday 4th, 11am-1pm.
  • Saturday 5th, 10am- 2pm. Why not look at the books when collecting your orders?
  • Sunday 6th, 11am-12noon.

A big thank you to those running the book stall and organising the online sale and to all those who are baking and cooking and contributing in other ways.

Request from Gardening Team
Whenever you are visiting the church garden, it would be helpful if you are able to pick up one or two pine cones and put them in a basket by the water cans. Thank you.

I end with a poem and a prayer focusing on the Trinity.

In the Beginning, not in time or space,
But in the quick before both space and time,
In Life, in Love, in co-inherent Grace,
In three in one and one in three, in rhyme,
In music, in the whole creation story,
In his own image, his imagination,
The Triune Poet makes us for his glory,
And makes us each the other's inspiration.
He calls us out of darkness, chaos, chance,
To improvise a music of our own,
To sing the chord that calls us to the dance,
Three notes resounding from a single tone,
To sing the End in whom we all begin;
Our God beyond, beside us, and within.
(Malcolm Guite)

The Trinity
Protecting me
The Father be
Over me
The Saviour be
Under me
The Spirit be
About me
The Holy Three
Defending me
As evening come
Bless my home
Holy Three
Watching me
As shadows fall
Hear my call
Sacred Three
Encircle me
So it may be
Amen to Thee
Holy Three
About me
(David Adam)

With love in Christ,
Helen
