Being Church in Strange Times - 89

Wednesday 21 July 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope to see many of you on Sunday. It will be my last Sunday in church for some time (see below). There are still some seats left if you want to come. Please contact the office by tomorrow morning. If you book a seat and then find you are unable to come please ring 077 495 7419 and let me know, so I can offer the seat to someone else.

As usual, you can also follow the Sunday service online: Service Resources at St Ursula's Church, Berne. We are all very thankful to Hector, Martin and Art for making this possible.

Away in the UK
David and I travel to the UK on Monday 26th July (hopefully!).
From 26th July until 8th August, I will be working from the UK (during our quarantine). You can contact me through email, phone or zoom.
From 9th August until 30th August we will be on holiday. We are looking forward to catching up with family and friends, most of whom we have not seen for 2 years.

Services while we are away
1st and 8th August: Service of the Word, led by Archana or James. I will be preaching; I will send my sermon from the UK and this will be read in the service.
15th, 22nd, 29th August: Eucharist. Adèle, our Archdeacon, will take these services. Please extend a very warm welcome to Adèle.
I am very grateful to Archana, James and Adèle for their willingness to take these services at St Ursula's to enable David and me to have a break in the UK.

Trash Heroes Clean Up Day, 24th July
Trash Heroes organise a clean up of the city regularly throughout the year. The next such event is on Saturday 24th July, beginning at 11am. Those who have been on such cleaning up days say that it is very worthwhile, suitable for families, and it is also fun! If you would like to join in, please meet Richard and Mary Lou at 10.50am at the Zytglogge. Please BRING GLOVES with you. Children need to be fully supervised by their parents. If you want to find out more about Trash Heroes you can look here.

Afternoon Tea, 24th July, 2-4pm
This will be an outdoor event only (weather permitting) in the Church Garden with sandwiches and home made cakes. Everyone is welcome. We request that all adults who attend are either fully vaccinated or take a Covid test (with a negative result) before the event. We need to know numbers, so if you would like to attend please contact Lynn Morgan on infaith40@gmail.com or 031 971 13 36 by tomorrow, Thursday 22nd. A very big thank you to those who are organising the tea.

David and I would be grateful for your prayers as we prepare to travel to the UK. Please pray that all the complicated procedures will go smoothly. Hopefully next time I send a message it will be from the UK!

'May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.' (Romans 15:13).,

With love in Christ,

With best wishes,
Helen
