Being Church in Strange Times - 93

Thursday 9 September 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope you are able to enjoy this beautiful weather and the beauty of God's creation.

Creation Season
During this Creation Season we give thanks to God our Creator for the wonders of creation and reflect on how we can better take care of it. This Sunday, 12th September, we will continue to consider these themes. If you are unable to be with us you can follow the service online at:
Service Resources at St Ursula's Church, Berne. We are all very thankful to Hector, Martin and Art for making this possible.

Talk on Climate Change
After the service this Sunday, 12th September, 11.30am, there will be a talk given by Dominic Roser, a member of our congregation who also works with the organisation Effective Altruism for Christians. The title of the talk is Separating the Chaff from the Wheat - How Can I Really Protect My Neighbour From Climate Change? It will focus on practical steps that each of us can take and how these relate to a Christian vision of the environment. There will be opportunity for questions afterwards. Please do come along.

Creation Season Challenge:
Make little changes to your lifestyle and make an environmental impact plus generate some funds for Tearfund. Tearfund is a Christian charity which works in some of the poorest countries in the world to tackle poverty through sustainable development.
We will collect the money at our Harvest Festival, 3rd October. Hopefully, if we all join in, we will raise a good amount of money for Tearfund. Follow this link for the challenge. Please do join us!

Autumn Sale: Thank you
Last Saturday was our Autumn Sale. A very big thank you to all those who worked so hard organising the orders and the books, baking and cooking. It was a very pleasant occasion and appreciated by all those who came along. We raised around Fr4,000.

Welcoming Children Back to Church
We are delighted that Junior Church and crèche will start up again on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. Our first week back will be Sunday 19th September. The children will be in for the first part of the service and there will be a children's talk and then they will leave for the Junior Church.
The service will be followed by an event in the garden, especially for families and children, with food and a pine cone hunt.

Creation Season Prayers

Glorious God,
the whole creation proclaims your marvellous work:
increase in us a capacity to wonder and delight in it,
that heaven's praise may echo in our hearts
and our lives be spent as good stewards of the earth,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen

Heavenly Lord.
you long for the world's salvation:
stir us from apathy,
restrain us from excess
and revive in us new hope
that all creation will one day be healed
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

With love in Christ,
Helen
