Being Church in Strange Times – 127

Wednesday 8 June 2022

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

It was such a delight to see so many people of all ages at our Pentecost service and celebrations last Sunday. It was wonderful to see the church so full; it was like pre-Covid times! After the service, we were privileged to listen to Dr Manoj Kurian talk about his work in many part of the world. I also want to thank those who organised the international lunch and all of you who brought such delicious food. We hope that we will have many more such events in the future.

Summer Fête, Saturday 11th June
Don't miss this event on Saturday, 10am - 3pm! There will be much to enjoy including:
Home cooked food at our grill, cafe and restaurant
Second hand books
Home baked goods
Raffle and tombola
Children's activities
British food products
Gift items and more...
This year we also welcome best selling author Diccon Bewes who will be talking about his books and signing copies.

We would still welcome help: if you can help baking cakes, running a stall, or helping to clear up afterwards, we'd love to hear from you!
Do come along and bring your friends.

This coming Sunday, 12th June, is another special Sunday as we celebrate Trinity Sunday. During the service, Benni Steinberg will be baptised. Please do keep Benni, his parents, Bettina and Gerrit, and his godparents and wider family in your prayers. Let us pray too that we will do our part as a Christian community in nurturing Benni in the faith as he grows up.

Talk about Care for Refugees, 12th June
After church, this Sunday, we will welcome Carsten Schmidt and Selina Leu to talk to us and share their experiences. They are involved in organising and resourcing volunteer groups working with refugees. We hope they will be able to help us consider steps we can take as a church to support refugees. Please come and join us as we think about this very pressing issue.

Onlne Service Resources
If you are unable to attend the service in person, you will be able to find the text of the readings, collect, and the first line of the hymns here.
There will also be an audio recording of the sermon taken during the service and put on the website afterwards here.

BBQ for Families, Sunday 19th June
After the service on Sunday 19th June, we welcome the families and children to stay for a BBQ. There will be activities for children while we have a discussion with the parents about Junior Church and other possible events and activities for children and young people in our church. Then we will all share a meal together. We hope that all families with children will attend.

Adorée's Memorial Service
This will be held at 11am on Saturday, 9th July.
If you would like to attend this service, please let the church office know by Tuesday 28th June. The family have kindly invited everyone who attends the service for refreshments afterwards at the Innere Enge Restaurant. Drinks and a light lunch will be provided. . If you would like to attend the reception, please reply to Adorée's daughter, Nicole Rolland: nicole.rolland@ntlworld.com (also by 28th June).

Trinity Sunday

In the Beginning, not in time of space,
But in the quick before both space and time,
In Life, in Love in co-inherent Grace,
In three in one, and one in three, in rhyme,
In music, in the whole creation story,
In his own image, his imagination,
The Triune Poet makes us for his glory,
And makes us each the other's inspiration.
He calls us out of darkness, chaos, chance,
To improvise a music of our own,
To sing the chord that calls us to the dance,
Three notes resounding from a single tone,
To sing the End in whom we all begin;
Our God beyond, beside us, and within.

(Malcolm Guite)

With love in Christ,
Helen
