Being Church in Strange Times – 128

Monday 13 June 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It was lovely to see many people at the summer fête last Saturday. It was a wonderful community event. I want to say a big thank you to all those who worked so hard in setting up and running stalls, baking, cooking, and organising everything. I know this is very hard work. Alongside the joy of being together as a community, we also raised a good amount of money. Thank you to all those who were involved.

BBQ for Families, Sunday 19th June
After the service next Sunday 19th June, there will be an event for the families and children. Activities will be provided for the children while we have a discussion with the parents about Junior Church and other possible events for children and young people in our church. Then we will all share a BBQ together. We hope that all families with children will attend.

Adorée's Memorial Service
This will be held at 11am on Saturday, 9th July. I think many people are planning on attending this service, but have not yet let us know! If you would like to come, please let the church office know by Tuesday 28th June

The family have kindly invited everyone who attends the service for refreshments afterwards at the Innere Enge Restaurant. Drinks and a light lunch will be provided. If you would like to attend the reception, please reply to Adorée's daughter, Nicole Rolland: nicole.rolland@ntlworld.com (also by 28th June).

Helen Away on Retreat
I am away on a short retreat from later today until late on Thursday evening. If you need anything urgently please contact the church office or the churchwardens.

Joy and Gratitude
I came across these words recently in a book about joy. They emphasise the need to be grateful for the joyful experiences and gifts we enjoy day by day.

'Every day joy waits to be gathered. Will you take the trouble to find it, cherish it, be grateful? Joy is like a stranger standing on your doorstep, and gratitude is the host who opens the door and says "Do come in and make yourself at home." Without gratitude, joy stands forever just outside the heart, making gestures that go unnoticed.'

(Mike Mason)

'Be joyful always pray at all times, and be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.' (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18).

With love in Christ,
Helen
