Being Church in Strange Times and at All Times – 147

Wednesday 30 November 2022

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I want to thank you for all your kind messages, prayers and practical support over these last two weeks. I am now much better though not quite 100%. But I had a negative Covid test this morning and David is also fine and testing negative. So we look forward to being able to be back with you all for the events and services coming up.

Advent Space: Yearning
The first of our Advent Space evenings is THIS EVENING, 20:00-21:00 in church. I will offer some brief reflections but the main purpose will be to offer time and space for quiet reflection and prayer. We will conclude the time by saying Compline (Night Prayer) together. Everyone is welcome.

American Thanksgiving
We will be holding a short Eucharist, followed by a simple celebratory lunch on Thursday 1st December, 12noon. Everyone is welcome, not just Americans! Please let the office know if you would like to come.

Children's First Communion
This postponed service will be held this Sunday, 4th December. Please join us for this celebratory service. Please keep Cem, Gabriela, Samuel, Lucas, Aydon, Adriele, Nayden and Zornitsa and their families in your prayers.

A BIG THANK YOU
A very big thank you to all who worked so hard to prepare for and run the Christmas Bazaar. I was very sad to miss it but I hear it was a great success, and very much appreciated. Thank you.

Advent Devotional
If anyone is looking for some reading for Advent, you might like to look at the material accessible through this link: 'The Season of Waiting...and Waiting...and Waiting.' It's written by Kate Bowler, a former colleague of David's when he taught at a seminary in the USA. Her reflections on living with cancer have been widely read.

With love in Christ,
Helen
