Being Church at All Times – 193

Thursday 7 December 2023

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

David and I want to thank you for your kindness, practical help and support, and many prayers for us while we have been ill. I am now much better than I was and I do hope to be with you on Sunday.

Sunday 10th December
On Sunday, during the service, Felix will be baptised. Do pray for Felix and his parents, Thomas and Enid. The theme of our service will be 'the way' as we think about John the Baptist preparing the way of the Lord and our call as Christians to 'follow in the way of Christ' as it says in the baptism service.

Carol Services
Please do come along to one of the carol services and bring your friends and neighbours:

  • Thursday 14th December, 19:30: A service of lessons and carols, in the Heiliggeistkirche, Bern
  • Tuesday 19th December, 19:00: A service of lessons and carols (followed by refreshments), Chapelle Romande, Thun

Nativity Play
Our annual Nativity Play with the Junior Church will be on Sunday 17th December. Please do come along to this special service and bring your relatives and friends.

I leave you with a wonderful Advent sonnet by Malcolm Guite, which reminds us that all we are comes from God, who is the wisdom behind all things:

O Sapientia

I cannot think unless I have been thought,
Nor can I speak unless I have been spoken;
I cannot teach except as I am taught,
Or break the bread except as I am broken.
O Mind behind the mind through which I seek,
O Light within the light by which I see,
O Word beneath the words with which I speak,
O founding, unfound Wisdom, finding me,
O sounding Song whose depth is sounding me,
O Memory of time, reminding me,
My Ground of Being, always grounding me,
My Maker's bounding line, defining me:
Come, hidden Wisdom, come with all you bring,
Come to me now, disguised as everything.

With love in Christ,
Helen
