NOTES ON A MEETING OF THE WORSHIP GROUP
held at St Ursula's Church Hall on Tuesday 13 April 1999 at 1930 hours

Present: Hector Davie, David Wotherspoon

  1. Archidiaconal Choir Festival

Preparations were in hand for the Choir Festival on 1/2 May at the Petrus- und Pauluskirche. Open points were (a) organizing a crèche; (b) service sheets - Hector offered to produce the sheet for Saturday, David that for Sunday: the two would liaise further- it was noted that some hymns had been typed into the old church computer and had not been transferred to the new one; (c) publicizing the Sunday service, and ferrying people who arrived at St Ursula's to the Petrus- und Pauluskirche (Beat Hodler had offered); (d) liaison with Peter Vogt and the Old Catholic ministry team - David had this in hand.

  2. Recent Services

Attendance at Easter has been good - about 42 communicants at 0900 and 98 at 1030. Some fifteen people had come to the Maundy Thursday service. Evening Prayer on Monday to Wednesday had been lightly attended. Attendance at the 1000 service on Good Friday had been good. In the absence of an organist, David had used CD's at the Good Friday afternoon devotion - this had received favourable comments.

About 20 had attended the Easter Vigil at Göttibach - but few from outside the Thun congregation. It was noted that the Old Catholics held their own vigil a little later in the same church, and that there might be possibilities of liaison next year.

  3. Service Times - Notice Board

David still had this in hand. The weather had prevented corrections from being made.

  4. Music

The importance, where possible, of discussing unfamiliar music with the organist and/or music team was stressed - especially where musicians were unfamiliar with regular Sunday worship at St Ursula's. The possibility of finding a musical director remained fluid.

  5. Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir who had been giving a concert on 29 May would now be leading Sunday worship on the 30th. It was planned to set up loudspeakers to relay the service outside the church - organization to be arranged.

  6. Confirmation Service

There had been comments from the Junior Church team that holding the service on a weekday marginalized it (it was "not part of church"). It was noted that the Bishop's timetable and the requirements for space all made the current planning necessary. The comments were noted. It was also noted that it was hoped that the confirmation group would continue to meet as a group after June. There was some discussion of means of ensuring that confirmees continued to attend church, and of the needs of young people and the right use of Sunday.

  7. All Age Worship

David noted that the Junior Church team would provide input for All Age Services.

  8. New Liturgy

In view of the low attendance, the question of liturgical revision was deferred.
