NOTES ON A MEETING OF THE WORSHIP GROUP
held at St Ursula's Church on Tuesday 13 June 2000 at 1930 hours

Present: Sarah Aebersold, Hector Davie, Hans Pfyffer, David Wotherspoon

  1. Music

A new music group was helping in the worship. It was felt that this was positive. It was noted that the congregation were unfamiliar with some of the choruses, and that a balance should be maintained between old and new. It was also noted that there was also a place for quiet organ music during communion.

There had been positive reactions to having the women sing the central part of the Gloria.

It was still planned to sing psalms and the Te Deum at Morning Prayer, and to use the Benedictus more often. It was noted that the settings in the blue book were not pointed. It was thought that pointed versions could be printed, and that Nigel Coombs could explain the principles of pointing to the congregation on a suitable occasion.

  2. Communion Rail

It was noted that one half of the communion rail had been put up for communion services. It was agreed this was not a good or permanent solution. Encouraging people to stand for communion posed problems.

  3. Common Worship

Texts of the new orders of Holy Communion were circulated. The text was on the World Wide Web, and Sarah had also typed texts in manually by amending Visual Liturgy.

It was agreed to experiment with a service in mid-July. The text would be printed (on up to eight sides of A5), together with the readings, on a handout sheet.

A replacement for the blue book would be made in due course. This would depend on the views of the new chaplain, and nothing could be done before Spring 2001. It was noted that a supply of covers still existed.

  4. Readings

It was noted that the readings shown in the magazine were incorrect. David undertook to contact Wendy about this.

  5. English Choir

The English Choir were singing on 2 July. The church needed to be available at 1900 on 26 June for rehearsal.

  6. Jonathan Goodall Seminar

Jonathan Goodall would be holding a seminar on 2 September. It was agreed that this should be advertised in the magazine well in advance.
