On Sunday 26th October, members of the Global Shapers Bern Hub joined forces with volunteers from St. Ursula’s Church for a community cleanup in the Könizerwald, the forested area between Liebefeld and Europaplatz.
Despite the unstable autumn weather, participants got to work, split into two teams and collected several bags of litter along forest paths and residential areas. There was a surprising amount of prosecco and other bottles, cans and other recyclable items.
Once collected the waste was sorted and, where possible, recycled – a powerful experience of turning polluting waste into precious resources.
The initiative aimed at raising awareness of our environmental responsibility and promoting cooperation between local community groups, whilst engaging in fun activities.
There will be another clean up action in Spring 2026.
