Being Church at All Times – 229

Thursday 19 September 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thank you for all your kind wishes and support for David as he was formally licensed last Sunday. We were very grateful to Archdeacon Peter for coming to license David and for his excellent and challenging sermon.

Andy Mering
I was very shocked to hear the very sad news that Andy died on 1st September. Andy was well known to several of us at St Ursula's. Let us remember Andy before God and commend him to God's mercy, and also pray for Hugo, for family and friends, and all who mourn.

Harvest Festival
Our harvest festival will be on Sunday 13th October. This will also be an All Age Eucharist. Please do bring flowers, fruit and vegetables and other produce to decorate the church. After the service we will have an Auction when the produce will be auctioned off to raise money for the Kigezi Water Project in Uganda, supported by ena! (formerly known as TearFund Schweiz)

Gardening Day
Our next Gardening Day will be on Saturday 19th October, 9.30am - 1pm. It would be great to have a good number to help with this. We especially encourage families to come with their children. We will have some little jobs for children and also hope to make a hedgehog house!
If you want to know more please do ask Sue.

Volunteers Needed
If you are able to help in any of the following areas, please let us know:

  • helping run the technical desk (sound system and beamer) in church during services
  • those with technical skills to help with IT and phone system
  • those who can operate and supervise the heating system
  • those who can help with building maintenance (church, halls and church house)

If you would like to know more, please contact the church wardens on
feedback@stursula.ch

Confirmation
If anyone is interested in being baptised or confirmed, please do let me know, so we can arrange some sessions to talk about the Christian faith. The next confirmation service in our area is on Sunday 1st December, in Basel.

Prayer
I leave you with an old prayer which reminds us of Christ's presence with us.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
(from St Patrick's Breastplate)

With love in Christ,
Helen
