Thursday 10 October 2024
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I hope that those of you who have been able to get away for the autumn holiday have enjoyed the break. I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday for our harvest festival.
Harvest Festival, Sunday 13th October
This will also be an All Age Eucharist. Please do bring flowers, fruit and vegetables and other produce to decorate the church. After the service we will have an Auction when the produce will be auctioned off to raise money for the Kigezi Water Project in Uganda, supported by ena! (formally known as TearFund Schweiz)
Gardening Day
Our next Gardening Day will be on Saturday 19th October, 9.30am - 1pm. It would be great to have a good number to help with this. We especially encourage families to come with their children. We will have some little jobs for children and also hope to make a hedgehog house!
If you want to know more please do ask Sue.
Sunday 20th October
David and I will be away and James will be leading the service which will be a service of the word (with no communion). Although James is now ordained a deacon, he cannot preside at communion until he is priested next summer. Thank you to James for leading this service.
Sunday 27th October: Bible Sunday
This will be a Sung Eucharist.
After the service we will have our annual Pumpkin Soup Lunch, raising money for Cecily's Fund. This is a charity which helps orphans in Zambia, and is one of the charities we support as a church. We will be very glad to welcome Basil Eastwood at the service and afterwards at the lunch and he will give us an update on Cecily's Fund. Basil is a former British Ambassador and also the founder of Cecily's Fund.
Bible Study on Luke's Gospel
I attach a flyer about a study morning on 9th November, 10:00 - 13:00 at Holy Trinity Geneva. This will be led by Canon Dr Clare Amos, Diocesan Director of Lay Discipleship. Those of you who have heard Clare before will know she is well worth listening to. Everyone is welcome at this event but please register.
As we celebrate our harvest festival this Sunday, let us give thanks for the rich beauty of the earth, for all the blessings God gives us, and pray that we may be generous people who share what we have with others.
Prayer and Blessing
Eternal God, you crown the year with your goodness
and you give us the fruits of the earth in their season:
grant that we may use them to your glory,
for the relief of those in need,
and for our own well being,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
May God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who is the source of all goodness and growth,
pour his blessing upon all things created,
and upon us his children,
that we may use his gifts to his glory and the welfare of all peoples,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
With love in Christ,
Helen
