Intercessions at St Ursula's Church, Berne, 15 March 2020

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.

God of peace and love, we turn to you for the refreshing of our soul, for the renewing of our spirit and the calming of our heart.

We thank you Lord, that you are present with all of us. Today we remember all who worship you in spirit and in truth - whether at home, in hospital, hidden in confinement or here at St Ursula’s. Unite us, Father in our love for Christ and bless us all with a deep relationship with you.

Please strengthen all bishops, clergy, teachers, missionaries and leaders in their ministry. May your wisdom be upon them as they take measures to protect worshippers from spreading diseases or other forms of harm.

We especially thank you for Helen and David, for their dedication and faithfulness to the people at St Ursula’s. At the same time, we ask you to protect their sons and other family members in this time of uncertainty.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

Jesus, we bring before you-a hurting and desolate world. Many are struggling without love, food, safety or shelter. Our hearts go out to the millions of people fleeing war, destruction and persecution. May your loving hand bind up their wounds, may you take them into the safety of your arms. May those in power submit their lives to you and be open to your guidance. Please bring repentance to those following selfish intentions. May your Holy Spirit touch the people of this world in such a way that they may go to all extents to love and reach out to those in need.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

God, our Father. You are the creator of all beings. You have spoken this world into existence. Yet, how easy it is Lord, for human beings to think that they are in charge.

May this time of global crisis open many people’s eyes to the eternal truth of the loving God who sent his Son to save the world. Open their and our eyes to your love for all mankind. Help us to put our hope only in Christ and to seek the living water which only you can provide.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

Jesus, more than ever before we are reminded of the fragility of life. We bring before you now, our near and dear ones who are struggling physically or mentally.

We either name them out loud or in the silence of our hearts...

Holy Spirit, remind us of ways to express God’s love in those battling difficult situations. Help us to keep in touch with those who feel left alone. And especially we pray for the members of the pastoral care team who reach out to those in need in the name of Christ and St. Ursula’s. We pray that you help them to point those they get in touch with to you - the source of all love, healing and life.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

Lord, thank you for another breath, another day of life. And thank you for giving us the free gift of eternal life — a gift which nobody and nothing can ever take away from us. We pray that you lead us into this new week in the knowledge of your love. May we live boldly in this time of uncertainty and become a lighthouse of Christ to those who feel uncertain. May we always live in a way, which speaks volumes about Jesus’ love and saving power.

Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Archana Jacob
