A Church of the Anglican Communion, welcoming all who seek the Lord Jesus Christ

Intercessions at St Ursula's Church, Berne, Passion Sunday, 29 March 2020

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.

Dear Lord and Father,
You so love the world you give your Son to free us from death; and we turn our backs on you and face only death. May we turn to face your Son, the Resurrection and the Life, leaving death behind us. You grant your Son, our Saviour and Intercessor, all he asks: you granted him Lazarus' life, and Lazarus came forth when your Son called him by name from the tomb.

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
We thank you for your church, the body we are part of, the body you feed so nourishingly.
We thank you for the ministry of your servants Archbishops Justin and John, our Bishops Robert and David, our Archdeacon Adèle, and our Chaplain Helen. We thank you for the hope you give us through them, for their service to you amid the sickness of the flesh.

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
We pray for our families, for those near us, especially those separated from us now. May they find fellowship in your Spirit, may they find comfort in your love. Your love brings us together, while the flesh holds us apart.

We name them aloud or in our hearts.

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
We thank you, we praise you for doctors, nurses, and all who care for the sick and tend the dying. May they feel your grace in their actions, may they feel your love in their love. Your Son our Saviour healed the sick: healing is a most precious gift from you. In particular, we pray for Yojena and Lilian as they minister to the sick.

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
we are sick at heart, in body, mind and soul, only say the word, and we shall be whole. We pray for the sick, may they seek and find your comfort in their pain. At this time, we bring to your presence all who are elderly, vulnerable, isolated, and frail.
In particular, we pray for Rose Marie, Kathy, John Eze, Mary Wittwer, Martin.
We name them aloud or in our hearts.

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
we pray for the dead. We thank you for their lives, as we grieve their going.

We name them aloud or in our hearts.

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
at this time, we thank you for the life of your servant John Donne, poet and Dean of St. Paul's.
He is most generally remembered for this quotation now, which fits our present isolation:
"No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main... Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

Now you call us, Lord, may we have faith in Life.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord,
accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Richard King
